Have you seen the new Virgin Bingo TV advert yet? It stars the sites new figure head the all singing all dancing host Ricardo who is a bearded ‘Jalapeño’ crooner dressed in traditional Mexican attire complete with sombrero. Ricardo is a cute little animated character trying to seduce the ladies with his sexy Mexican accent and by shaking his maracas (oooer) so if you feel like your bingo life needs spicing up you know exactly where you need to go!

I must admit I do like this advert as it has everything it needs to be a success; it has the memorable character, the cheesy music and funny punch lines while portraying the message of free bingo every day at virgin Bingo perfectly. I am sure Ricardo’s career will not end with just this one advert though and we may even find some new spicy themed bingo rooms or side games making their way onto the Virgin Bingo roster.

I do however have a couple of problems with the advert too as it is targeting just the bingo sites female players, what about us blokes? You would think a brand such as virgin would try not to be so sexist; where is the curvy and sexy yellow pepper to flirt and entice us red blooded males?

My second problem is that I don’t think it will be long before some misguided fool complains that the advert is racist because of the Mexican stereotypes or that Ricardo appeals to children and will encourage them to gamble (as happened with Tombola Bingo). I sincerely hope I am wrong because I appreciate the advert for its comedic value and can’t wait to see what comes next.
